Myth: “Time heals all wounds”
Fact: Its not about time, its about going through the stages of emotional grief.
Myth: Grief is what is experienced when someone dies.
Fact: This is true. However, there are many other events that may occur that will prompt grief, such as:
- Moving
- Loss of a job/pet
- Divorce
- Trauma
- Accident/fire/natural disasters
- Illness
- Disability
- and many more
Many people may feel depressed, anger, and anxiety for years after experiencing a loss. Others may experience these emotions right away, but then feel “stuck” and can't move on.
It absolutely amazing how lighter a person feels after having professional support, validation, and safety to facilitate the stages of grief.
